Alex Seton’s work for the Biennial references an incident whereby the lifejackets of 28 asylum seekers were discovered washed-up on Cocos Island off the coast of Western Australia in May 2013. Seton’s solemn marble re-enactment forms an enduring memorial for what he describes as, “simply 28 souls likely lost at sea”.
